Amazon Prime Day 2024: Dates, Early Deals and the Best Phone & Tech Offers to Watch

Every year, Amazon Prime Day rolls around and the internet collectively loses its mind over discounted gadgets, phones, and tech accessories. And honestly? Sometimes the hype is justified. If you know where to look and what to ignore, Prime Day can be genuinely brilliant for picking up a new handset, a pair of wireless earbuds, or a tablet at a price that doesn't make your eyes water.

So let's get into it — when is Prime Day 2024, what's already on offer, and how do you make sure you're actually getting a deal rather than a dressed-up dud?

When Is Amazon Prime Day 2024?

Amazon confirmed that Prime Day 2024 will take place on 16th and 17th July 2024. That's a two-day event, running across Tuesday and Wednesday, with deals going live from midnight on the 16th.

As with previous years, you'll need an active Amazon Prime membership to access Prime Day pricing. If you're not already subscribed, Amazon offers a 30-day free trial, which means you can technically sign up, grab the deals, and cancel before you're charged — though do set a reminder, because that monthly fee sneaks up on you.

Amazon has also been rolling out early Prime Day deals in the run-up to the main event, with discounts appearing across electronics, smart home gear, and mobile accessories from early July onwards. So it's worth keeping an eye on the site even before the 16th.

What Kind of Phone and Tech Deals Should You Expect?

Prime Day has historically been one of the best times of year to buy tech in the UK, second only to Black Friday. Here's a rough idea of what tends to go on sale:

Smartphones

Amazon regularly discounts its own Fire Phone range (yes, that's still a thing), but more importantly, you'll often see solid reductions on Samsung Galaxy handsets, Google Pixel phones, and unlocked iPhones — particularly last-generation models. The sweet spot tends to be phones that are one or two generations old; manufacturers want to shift stock before new releases, so discounts can be genuinely significant.

In 2023, for example, the Samsung Galaxy S23 dropped by over £150 during Prime Day. Don't be surprised to see similar treatment for the S23 range again in 2024, especially with the S24 series now established in the market.

Tablets

Amazon's own Fire tablets almost always see steep reductions — sometimes up to 50% off — and the iPad range often gets a modest trim too. If you've been eyeing up a budget Android tablet for the kids, or a mid-range slate for yourself, this is the time to buy.

Earbuds, Headphones and Audio

AirPods, Sony WH-1000XM5, Samsung Galaxy Buds — these tend to be among the most-clicked deals every Prime Day. Wireless earbuds in particular see excellent discounts, with some models dropping to their lowest-ever prices.

Smart Home and Accessories

Echo devices, Ring doorbells, smart plugs, and phone cases all tend to feature heavily. If you're building out a smart home or just need a decent charging cable that isn't falling apart, Prime Day is your moment.

How to Actually Get the Best Deals

Here's the honest truth: not every Prime Day deal is a genuine bargain. Amazon (and third-party sellers on the platform) have been known to quietly inflate prices in the weeks before Prime Day, then trumpet a "massive discount" that's actually bringing the price back down to what it was in March. Cheeky.

To protect yourself:

Is Prime Membership Worth It Just for Prime Day?

If you're only signing up for the trial to grab Prime Day deals, it can absolutely be worth it — provided you actually cancel before the trial ends. An annual Prime membership currently costs £8.99 per month (or £95 a year), so if you're saving more than that on your purchases, you're ahead.

That said, if you use Prime for next-day delivery, Prime Video, or Prime Music throughout the year, the membership pays for itself pretty quickly regardless of Prime Day.

Early Deals Already Live

Ahead of the main event, Amazon UK has been drip-feeding early offers. At the time of writing, we've spotted discounts on:

These prices shift frequently, so bookmark Amazon's dedicated Prime Day deals page and check back regularly.

Our Verdict

Prime Day 2024 looks set to be another strong event for UK tech buyers, particularly if you're in the market for a new phone, tablet, or audio gear. The key is going in with a plan — know what you want, check the price history, and don't let the countdown timers rush you into buying something you don't need.

We'll be covering the best phone and mobile tech deals as they land across both days, so stay tuned to Phone Week for our live updates when the event kicks off on 16th July.
