The name Sergei Kravinoff may sound exciting to Marvel comics fans, but to a broader audience, it probably won’t ring a bell. That may, however, change this December after the arrival of a new film from Sony’s Spider-Man Universe, which will introduce another formidable enemy of Peter Parker.
Kraven the Hunter is the alias of the mentioned Sergei Kravinoff, who was brought to life by Stan Lee and artist Steve Ditko in 1964. In the comic books, he’s a maniacal Russian big-game hunter whose life goal is to defeat Spider-Man and prove himself the world’s greatest hunter.
The film, created by Sony, will cover Kraven’s origin story. Interestingly, the character, played by Aaron Taylor-Johnson, will be very different from the comic book villain – he won’t be an obsessive hunter but a conservationist and animal lover. As you might expect, this radical change upset comic book fans. However, it’s worth remembering that the film tells Kraven’s backstory – he may undergo a transformation to become more like his comic book prototype.
According to the filmmakers, Kraven the Hunter will be a family story mixed with a gangster tale. If you want to get a taste of what’s coming to cinemas this December, watch the movie’s trailer:
When will Kraven the Hunter tickets go on sale?
The new movie from Sony’s Spider-Man Universe will open in the US and UK cinemas on Friday, 13 December 2024. According to social media rumours, tickets for the film will become available on Friday, 29 November 2024, two weeks before Kraven’s premiere.
It may seem late, given that tickets for the previous instalment of Sony Universe, Venom: The Last Dance, went on sale over three weeks before the movie premiere. However, Sony may assume that the film about the space parasite was much more anticipated than the controversial adaptation of the Kraven comics, whose premiere suffered several delays.
Note, however, that Sony still needs to confirm the aforementioned date.
