Tesla (TSLA) CEO Elon Musk has addressed recent rumors about the company entering the smartphone market. He clarified that the idea of Tesla making a smartphone has never been seriously discussed internally at any level within the company.
Despite Tesla having potential advantages over Android and Apple (AAPL, Financial) in smartphone development, there is currently no strong incentive for the company to pursue this product category. Musk mentioned that Tesla might consider developing a phone only if major players like Apple and Google start imposing unreasonable app restrictions or behave improperly as gatekeepers.
