vivo launches X200 smartphones in China — Price, features and more

vivo has launched the latest generation of its flagship X series of smartphones in China on Monday. Apart from the standard X200 and X200 Pro variants, vivo also debuted the X200 Pro Mini.

The X200 series is an evolution of the excellent X100 series — the X100 Pro was one of the best smartphones I reviewed this year, with possibly the best cameras on a handset right now. The X200 Pro Mini is a brand new model with presumably the same hardware albeit in a compact form factor.

The X200 series is expected to launch in India soon.

All three China models are powered by the brand-new MediaTek Dimensity 9400 chipset, Origin OS 5 and artificial intelligence features such as vivo’s own take on Circle to Search, which allows you to look up pretty much anything by holding on the home bar at the bottom of the screen and circle anything on the screen.

Origin OS is the operating system these smartphones run in China — global variants will run Funtouch OS 15 based on Android 15.

Price, variants & availability

The X200 series has launched in four colours — Carbon Black, Titanium Grey, Moonlight White and Sapphire Blue; all three models are available in the 12GB+256GB, 12+512, 16+512 and 16+1 TB RAM+storage variants.

The X200 is priced at 4,300 yen or roughly ₹51,000 for the base variant, while the X200 Pro will cost 5,999 yen (approximately ₹63,000). The X200 Pro Mini will be available starting at 4,699 yen (about ₹56,000) for the base model.

All three handsets are up for preorder in China today. The X200 and Pro Mini will be available on the shelves from October 19, while the X200 Pro will be up for grabs from October 25.

Specifications

The X200 comes with a 6.67-inch OLED display with support for flicker reduction in low-light scenarios (to reduce eye strain), HDR10+ and a peak brightness of 4,500 nits.

It comes with a triple rear camera setup — a 50-megapixel Sony IMX921 primary sensor, a 50-megapixel Sony IMX882 telephoto shooter, and a 50-megapixel ultra-wide snapper.

The X200 packs a 5,800mAh BlueVolt battery with support for 90W wired charging.

The X200 Pro has a display the same size as the non-pro variant, except with LTPO technology that allows variable refresh rate of up to 120 Hz. The display also sports slimmer bezels. The Pro Mini, on the other hand, features a 6.31-inch flat display.

Both pro models have triple rear camera units — a 50-megapixel Sony LYT-818 sensor and a 50-megapixel ultra-wide angle lens. The X200 Pro ups the game in the telephoto department with a 200-megapixel lens, while the Mini has a 50-megapixel camera.

The Pro models are boosted by vivo’s V3+ imaging chip, which was exclusive the the X100 Ultra (never released in India). The chip allows the phones to take 4K HDR Cinematic Portrait video, as well as shoot in 10-bit Log at up to 60 frames per second. For the uninitiated, Log is a video format that allows incredible fidelity in post-processing, including colour-grading, to make videos really pop.

The X200 Pro and X200 Pro Mini pack a 6,000mAh and 5,800mAh battery, respectively.

The phones also feature an iPhone-like ‘Dynamic Island’, where the real estate around the front camera expands to show notifications and other updates. vivo calls it Origin Island.
