Samsung Electronics Co. surpassed Apple Inc. in global smartphone sales in February thanks to strong demand for its latest Galaxy S24 series.
According to Hana Securities Co. on Sunday, Samsung Electronics’ smartphone sales stood at 19.69 million units, accounting for 20 percent of the market while Apple sold 17.41 million units (18 percent).
In January, Apple was the top seller with 20.42 million units with a 20 percent market share, while Samsung Electronics came in next with 17.44 million units (18 percent).
According to IDC, Apple held the top spot in global smartphone market share last year with 20.1 percent, while Samsung Electronics, which led in 2022 with 21.7 percent, fell to 19.4 percent, marking its first dethronement in 13 years.
Samsung Electronics’ resurgence is largely credited to its latest release, the Galaxy S24 Ultra, acclaimed for having the best smartphone camera by U.S. Consumer Reports magazine, scoring 87 points compared to iPhone 15 Pro Max‘s 86. Alongside, the Galaxy S24+ secured third place with 85 points.
Meanwhile, Samsung Electronics’ all-in-one washer-dryer is receiving positive response in the U.S. for its low energy consumption.
According to the Energy Star administered by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, the annual energy consumption of Samsung‘s Bespoke AI Combo U.S. model was 319 kWh. The CEF rating was 7.50, outperforming competing models such as LG Electronics Inc.’s Tromm Objet Collection Wash Combo U.S. model, which consumed 380 kWh and had a CEF of 6.3, and General Electric Co.‘s washer-dryer products, which consumed 399 kWh and had a CEF of 6.
